New guidelines for stroke patients in the hospital

Posted: Updated:

Stroke patients should get clot dissolving therapy within an hour of getting to the hospital.  That's part of new guidelines from the American Stroke Association. Previous studies have shown these medications were effective up to 4.5 hours after a stroke.  But now, the experts say emphasis should be on minimizing that window, and getting the patient to the hospital within an hour of symptoms for the best chance of a complete recovery.
