Texas is expected to appeal today's school finance trial ruling to the state Supreme Court.
Earlier today a judge ruled that the system Texas uses to fund public schools violates the state's constitution. He says the state has failed to provide enough money to schools and has failed to distribute the money in an equitable way.
The trial took more than 3 months and 600 Texas school districts expressed their concerns over funding, including Lubbock ISD.
LISD Board of Trustees President Steve Massengale says that over the past couple of years the district has seen millions of dollars in cuts to its budget.
According to Massengale, the district is funded in the lower 15% of all the districts in the state.
With increased expectations with testing, with decreased resources it causes a problem.
Massengale says although the judge's decision today is a step in the right direction he doesn't think LISD funding or finances will change anytime soon.
