Imagine a movie theater where you might find your mother working the snack bar and your brother sweeping up popcorn after the show. That's exactly the case in Lamesa.
Movieland is a theater run by just two paid employees and 150 volunteers. In 2001, Girl Scout Troop 43 decided to renovate, re-open, and run the theater as part of their Gold Award project. Since that time, the theater has turned into a community-wide project.
"It's hometown people. They give you good service. They make sure you're taken care of," says Darla Fletcher, Movieland viewer.
Movieland hopes to get a second screen by Christmas. Movieland is located at 605 North Austin in Lamesa.
