In the next few days you're going to see a KCBD investigation into the policies local schools have with students and cell phones. I won't give away too much, just to say some of the policies are raising eyebrows.
For example, some districts charge a student $15 to get their cell phone back if they are caught using it in class.
There are some parents and other groups that have a problem with that sort of policy. I am not one of them. My son carries a cell phone to class and I'm completely comfortable with them enforcing any legal penalty for using their cell phone against the rules. It's a problem everywhere and we as parents also bear some responsibility. Supporting these rules is a good start.
So I say keep up the $15 penalties and if that doesn't work, school boards should look at tougher punishments.
