Health inspectors made 70 surprise visits to Lubbock restaurants this week to check up on their cleanliness. They found a mix of good and bad news.

Larry's Giant Subs at 4415 S. Loop 289 might be new to town, but this franchise sliced through their inspection with ease.

General Manager Marcus Owens knows why, "The secret to getting a top performer is actually having good quality products, fresh cut meat daily and always staying clean."

Not only do they have the recipe for perfection in the kitchen, what they're serving up is on top as well, "We have 40 different sandwiches, we have Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, we have the works!"

Next we head to the top of the throne. Dairy Queen at 7813 Slide reigns supreme this week.

From homemade sauces to fresh cut fries, our next stop is anything but ordinary; Wild Burger Grille at 3515 50th sizzles with perfection.

Craving some lip smacking BBQ? We've got the answer. Dickey's BBQ Pit at 5217 98th dishes up a flawless inspection.

We wrap up the top of the list with a sweet treat. Sugarbaker's at 4601 S. Loop 289 bakes up another perfect score.

Next we head to this week's only low performer.
Carino's Italian Kitchen at 6821 Slide Road had six critical violations.
* Cold foods, including cooked pasta and cut tomatoes, were not at 41 degrees or below.
* An employee did not wash their hands when changing their gloves.
* Employees' drinks did not have a lid. Ice and a straw were in a hand sink.
* There was no soap at a hand sink.
* Cans were sharply dented.
* A cutting board was melted and had deep grooves. Several lids and containers were dirty.

The area director for Carino's sent us this statement,
"At Johnny Carino's we take the cleanliness and sanitation of our restaurants very seriously, and it is a great source of pride for us. As advisers and partners in our efforts, we work closely with the Health Department to ensure we maintain the highest standards of quality and cleanliness. With our most recent inspection, all issues were addressed and corrected immediately during the visit, ensuring we are able to maintain our high quality standards."

The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
