LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
An area mother has been killed and her two children were injured in a major rollover accident that happened just before 6 p.m. Friday evening near Woodrow.
The accident happened on County Road 7900 about a mile west of Highway 87 and just south of FM 41.
DPS Corporal John Gonzalez says 37-year-old Sanjuana Hernandez was driving down CR 7900 on her way home when she veered off into the ditch, overcorrected and then rolled her pickup truck into a nearby field.
Gonzalez says Hernandez was ejected and died on the scene. They believe she was not wearing her seatbelt.
Her 8-month-old baby was sitting in a child safety seat, and her 14-year-old son was wearing a seatbelt. Both children were taken to UMC with non-life threatening injuries.
Gonzalez says the speed limit on that road is 60mph, but going that fast, combined with the bad condition of the dirt road could have played a factor in the deadly rollover.
"This is more of a farming road where a lot of farmers go back and forth, and unfortunately it's rutted, the ditches are deep and v-shaped. It's very common out here in the county to have one vehicle rollovers," he said.
