Scurry County sits on one of the largest oil fields in the country. 2,000 oil pumps are currently active within the county. It's that oil that's been pumping dollars into the economy since 1948 when Standard of Texas first struck oil. A historical marker sits five miles north of Snyder showing where the billionth barrel of oil was pumped.
It's the job of one company to regenerate that oil. Kinder Morgan strips the natural gas from the oil that is pumped and then it takes that gas and further separates the liquids and hydrocarbons. Those liquids are then pumped back into the ground. Back in April, the Snyder Chamber of Commerce named Kinder Morgan it's company of the year.
