Kids learn about exercise, nutrition at Family Fitness Day

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Kids and parents came out for Family Fitness Day on Sunday, hosted by Stretch 'n Grow.

The organization wants to help improve awareness about child fitness and stress the importance of developing motor skills at an early age.

"For the first time in over 150 years our children have a lower life expectancy than their parents do, so we're trying to reach out to the community and provide them with resources and tools on how to get their families healthy and active."

Kids participated in relay races, obstacle courses and basketball shooting at Premier SportsPlex at 9000 Memphis.

Instructors taught families about the importance of exercise and sound nutritional choice.

Funds raised on Sunday will be used to finance travel to Asia where they'll be offering physical education training to teachers.
