One of the oldest bakeries in Texas is still going strong in Slaton.
The Slaton Bakery has been in operation since 1923. It actually started out as a wholesale bread company, but cookies, pies, cakes and other pastries have since been added to the menu.
The Slaton Bakery also claims to have first introduced sliced hamburger and hot dog buns to the state of Texas. Now their sweet reputation has attracted the attention of customers from all 50 states, and at least 12 countries.
Over the years, the bakery has changed hands a few times, and locations. But in 1983, the bakery returned to a new building in the exact spot where it originally began at 109 South 9th St.
The Slaton Bakery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Sundays.
