LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Texas Tech students took part in a global campaign to end violence against women Thursday. The "One Billion Rising" campaign is intended to bring awareness to sexual crimes against women.

Two student organizations, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA) and the Women's Studies Program organized the event, which took place at Tech's Memorial Circle.

According to the campaign's website, one billion women around the world will suffer some sort of physical or psychological violence in their lifetime.

Organizers say events were held in more than 200 countries around the world today.
