A day after Lubbock issues a ban on the sale of synthetic drugs here, the CDC issues a warning. The warning says that the use of synthetic marijuana may cause acute injury to the kidneys. As the Lubbock City Council discussed before its vote, the products are sold as incense, are using names like "Spice" and "K2". They're often labeled "not for consumption", but some people smoke it anyway. Now, the CDC says it received 16 reports of kidney damage last year in people who had recently smoked synthetic marijuana. The patients reported feeling nausea and pain in their stomach and side before learning that they were in various stages of kidney failure.
