Demonstrators who are Anti-Bush lined the streets outside the Civic Center before Vice President Dick Cheney arrived.

Security was very high in anticipation of the Vice-President's arrival. It was mostly security, the media, and local dignitaries there to greet him as he got off the plane. From there, Cheney got into his vehicle, part of the motorcade that wisked him away to the Civic Center where he would speak.

Early in the day at the Civic Center, bomb dogs were out checking the grounds for anything suspicious. Law enforcement presence was heavy. Local agencies spent several days preparing with help from the Secret Service and the FBI. Background checks were performed on all that entered to see the Vice-President speak.
