San Antonio based SBC Communications Inc. donated the money to the Amber Alert programs in 13 states including Texas. The money will be used to help police improve how the program is managed and find better ways to distribute the information when a child is reported missing.
"That if you can get that child within the first 24 to 48 hours it's your best chance to save that child," said Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R).
The Amber Alert program was named after Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old Arlington child who was kidnapped and killed in 1996. Amber's killer has never been found.
