Cheney Visits to Boost Neugebauer Campaign

The boy scouts were dressed to the nines, the cookies and crackers were never ending, and the lollipops said it all. "It says 'Vote Randy," said a campaign worker.

1,200 Neugebauer supporters waiting for a special guest. "We're here to see Vice-President Cheney and root for he and Randy," said Charlie and Dottie Lusher, front row seat holders at a sold out event. "Excellent speech as usual," said Charlie. And that was before Cheney and Neugebauer had even waved from the doorway of air force two.

Demonstrators who are Anti-Bush lined the streets outside the Civic Center before Vice-President Dick Cheney arrived.

When the Vice-President did take to the podium, "This looks like its Bush/Cheney/Neugebauer country," said Cheney to a round of applause. The Vice-President touched on everything from terrorism to taxes, taking occasionally taking swipes at Kerry/Edwards, but returning to a White House seal of approval for Neugebauer. "Randy's a steady advocate for agriculture issues, for low taxes, a sound energy policy, and a strong national defense. He stands up for his views. He's not afraid to reach across the aisle to get things done. And that's exactly the kind of congressman you deserve here in the 19th district and that's why you're going to send him back for another term in the U.S. house," he said.

Last month Neugebauer's own poll put him eight points ahead of Congressman Stenholm. What will the polls show after Monday's visit? "It's not about the poll its about the people and that's what I'm doing I'm going out and I'm meeting as many people as I can, let them get to know Randy Neugebauer and know how hard I'm going to work for them," said Neugebauer.
