Study shows drug overdoses on the rise

Posted: Updated:

This study was led by researchers at centers for disease control and prevention and published in 'jama' that fatal drug overdoses in the u-S are on the rise, for the eleventh year in a row.

That's according to a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics which reveals over 38-thousand Americans died from drug overdoses in 2010.

More than half of these fatalities involved prescription drugs, mostly painkillers. And three quarters of prescription drug deaths were accidental.

Experts say over the last 10 years, prescription drug deaths have outnumbered those from heroin and cocaine combined.
