Home court could be Darton advantage

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Darton women's basketball team will close out the regular season at home against Georgia Highlands Saturday.

It appeared a few weeks ago this game would decide who got the top seed in the conference tournament and the right to host the semifinals and finals.

Darton clinched the regular season title with their win over East Georgia on Wednesday night.

If Darton wins the conference tournament, they would then host the district championship game.

That means the Lady Cavs road to the national tournament will be played on their home court where Darton has not lost a game this season.

Head coach Lea Henry knows playing at home doesn't guarantee a win for her team but does admit it will be a big advantage.

"If we can get to the weekend, stay home.  Have a chance to sleep in our own beds.  Have the comfort level of our home court.  We have the best fans in the region.  So, I think we will have a good turnout and I think it could be an exciting weekend for our kids," said Darton head coach Lea Henry.

Darton will tip with Georgia Highlands at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lady Cavs host a first round GCAA tournament game on Tuesday and advance to the semifinals on Friday if they win.
