UMC hosts bariatric surgery seminar

Dr. David Syn, medical director of the UMC Bariatric Center, will host a free seminar on bariatric surgery for those considering a weight loss procedure Saturday at UMC.

Dr. Syn will offer information on three types of bariatric surgery offered at UMC – Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch – the risk and benefits of each procedure and who may quality. Dr. Syn's staff will also speak about insurance coverage of bariatric surgeries.

Former patients and those undergoing treatment will be on hand to offer support and answer questions.

UMC recently remodeled hospital rooms especially for bariatric surgery patients. UMC has received the Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award from HealthGrades for three straight years. HealthGrades also ranked UMC among the top 5 hospitals in Texas for Bariatric Surgery during that time.
