Hundreds compete in Extreme Winter Gymnastics Championship

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Hundreds of gymnasts put it all on the line in Lubbock Saturday.

The 7th Annual USA Gymnastics Extreme Winter Classic Competition was held at the civic center on Saturday.

This two-day event was first in a series of national championship qualifiers.

London Olympic qualifier, Dakota Earnest competed in the event.

The three events that were showcased at the event were power tumbling, double mini and trampoline.

Patti Connor, USA Gymnastics, Region 4 Director says, "Trampoline is an Olympic sport - it has been since the year 2000... Kids can come out and see what trampoline is all about - it's a big deal in this part of the country."

When all was said and done, 585 athletes, ranging in ages from 4 to 25 took part in the event.

Lubbock Sports estimates the competition brought in $84,000 dollars to the Lubbock economy.
