2 killed in Sunday morning rollover

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Two people died in a car accident early Sunday morning after driving at what police are calling an unsafe speed.

Around 1:40 a.m., the driver, 22-year-old Brian Jefferies and his passenger. 21-year-old Spencer Brown were traveling west bound on the 1500 block of Kent Street when the 2005 Silver Chevrolet 4-door car hit a massive incline from the railroad tracks and went airborne.

The car vaulted over onto Avenue Q and went off to the side of the road, hitting a light pole.

Brown, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Both passenger and driver died in the accident.

Power in the area was knocked out briefly after the car hit the pole.

Police are waiting on a toxicology report to see if Jefferies was driving under the influence.

The driver was wearing a seat belt.
