The number of young women diagnosed with advanced breast cancer is on the increase.
The study in the journal of the American Medical Association reviewed large databases to learn the trends in breast cancer diagnosis from 1973 to 2009. They found there has been a steady increase in the number of cases diagnosed between the ages of 25 and 39, all under the recommended age for annual mammograms.
They discovered there's a 2 percent increase in cases every year, and that these women typically have a worse prognosis because they are not routinely screened, and are less likely to have health insurance.
