State title game ends in heartbreak for Smyer Lady Cats

Collapse. Shock. Stunned. Absolute heartbreak.

The Smyer Lady Cats season ended Saturday at the hands of the Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs 49-46 in the Conference 1A Division 1 State Title Game.

Despite shooting 36 percent for the entire game, the Lady Mustangs used a 15-2 run to close the gap and eventually take the lead in the final seconds against Smyer. The Lady Cats took an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Mustangs led only twice in this game - a 2-0 lead to start the game and the eventual game-winning shot in the final 10 seconds.

Seniors Jordan Locke and Kennedy Farr ended their high school basketball career with 3 trips to the State Finals in Austin. They won two state championships in 2010 and 2011. Kennedy Farr once again had a big day on the court with 20 points and seven boards, but got into foul trouble in the fourth quarter which led to her not being as aggressive. The Lady Mustangs took advantage.

Jordan Locke scored 17 points and grabbed 6 boards in her final game as a Lady Cat.

The Lady Cats end their season at 33-7. The Lady Cats will now work on returning to the tournament with a very young squad.

Hats off to the Lady Cats on a fantastic season!
