Fatal Accident on Farmer Market Road

Two residents of Abernathy are dead following a collision in southern Hale county.

It happened just before 10:30 Friday night, at the intersection of farm roads 54 and 400. That's where a suburban was headed west on FM 54, and a pickup was eastbound.

At the intersection, the driver of the pickup attempted to turn north on to FM 400 and collided with the suburban head on. The driver of the suburban, Eddie Fortenberry and a driver's side passenger, Amelia Fortenberry were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Passengers Angela McDowell and two children were taken to Covenant Medical Center where McDowell is listed in satisfactory condition. The conditions of the children are currently unavailable.

The driver of the pickup told police she thought the intersection was a four way stop. Everyone in the pickup refused treatment.
