New mortality rate for women

First, the good news for women, if a long life is on your bucket list, women still outlive men overall. But, a new study reveals the gap is narrowing between the life span of men and women.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin studied death data from almost every county in the country, and found that while the overall number of premature deaths among women has dropped, there is an increase in the death rate among women in the south. The experts blame in part that good ol' southern cooking because obesity is the biggest factor.

But also, and this is important, they found that more women are not giving up their cigarettes.

On the flip-side, the study showed that among men, life expectancy has held steady, or improved in almost every county in the country.
