You don't hear a positive story about weight gain very often, but that's the case in a study from the University of Kansas, and we're talking about newborns.
Researchers there have decided women can benefit by taking dha supplements during the last half of their pregnancies. Dha supplements are a type of omega-3 fatty acid. The Kansas study found babies whose mothers took the supplements were almost a half pound heavier than those whose mothers took none. The babies were also less likely to be born prematurely. And researchers say they found no negative side effects.
The study is in the American journal of clinical nutrition. But of course, if you're pregnant, you want to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements.
