Two killed in mobile home fire near Shallowater

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office confirmed a mother and her child have died in a mobile home fire early Wednesday morning near Shallowater.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m., Shallowater, New Deal, and West Carlisle fire departments responded to the Fay Ben Mobile Home Park on County Road 6100 just west of Highway 84. When they arrived, a mobile home and a nearby vehicle were engulfed in flames.

Lieutenant Bryan Taylor with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office reported that a 58-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son were killed in the fire. Separate sources have identified the mother as Patsy Robledo and her child as Angel Ramos. Angel was a pre-k student at Shallowater Elementary.

"Anytime you have a scene like that it is difficult for everyone involved. However, I think our main priority is and always will be for the victim and the obligation to find out why this happened. Hopefully we'll bring it to a resolution," Lieutenant Taylor said.

Taylor says state fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire but at this point it looks accidental.

An account has been set up on behalf of Robledo and Ramos. Deposits/donations can be accepted at any Wells Fargo location.
