The latest public health campaign in New York City is not so loud, on purpose.
It involves a quarter-million dollar ad campaign to save hearing by encouraging folks to turn down their earphones.
Studies have shown that loud music from mp3 players is to blame for hearing loss in some people. The New York City health department is targeting teens in an effort to protect their ears before they suffer the consequences with hearing loss as a young adult.
This isn't the first public health effort from the New York City health department. Remember, it took a bold step banning trans fats, and super size soft drinks to help put a dent in obesity.
