Texas Rangers have joined the search for missing 30-year-old Maegan Hembree.
Maegan, a Smyer resident, was last seen February 26th around 6:30 p.m. The last time Hockley County Sheriff Deputies were able to trace her cell phone use was a few hours after she went missing. Since then her phone has not been used.
The car Maegan was driving was found at a west Lubbock apartment complex last Tuesday, but investigators are not releasing much information about its discovery. "When they found it, it gave us a little inkling of hope, but it was just left there so it's kind of like starting from square one," Maegan's younger sister Jill Cantu said.
Jill says they are grateful the Texas Rangers are now helping because it will add more manpower and resources to cover a broader search area. "I know it's only been two weeks, but I see these stories of people still looking for their missing… and you just never give up hope," Jill cried. "We just need her to come home. Aiden needs her to come home."
Aiden is Maegan's five year old son. He is currently staying with his father who is separated from Maegan.
Hockley County Sheriff, R.C. Cheek says they have received a few tips from the community and right now some of his investigators are out of town following up on leads.
The following is a description of Maegan:
- 30 years old
- Approximately 4'11" tall and weighing approximately 120 lbs
- Has a Houston Astros star tattoo on the back of her neck, a tattoo on her left shoulder and biohazard tattoo on her lower left leg
- Last seen wearing pajama pants and a hooded sweatshirt
Anyone with information about Maegan is urged to contact investigators at the Hockley County Sheriff's Office.
