Fatal Traffic Accident Inspires Woman's Heroism

A 48-year-old woman is dead after an accident in West Lubbock. It happened around 2:30 this afternoon in the 7700 block of 19th street. Lubbock Police say a Ford Taurus veered into the path of a Chevy Silverado, causing the vehicles to collide. Selina Flores, the driver of the Taurus, died in the accident.

NewsChannel 11 spoke to a woman who stopped to render aide who says this should be a lesson to all drivers. "Heart wrenching, it made your heart hurt, if you didn't hurt then you weren't human," says Terii Cummins as she describes what she experienced when she arrived at the scene of the accident just moments after it occurred.

"I just feel like this was what I was supposed to do, what I would want somebody to do for my family," she says. As soon as she arrived, Cummins called EMS to the scene and offered support when the family of the victims arrived. "When her daughter came upon the scene to see her mom dead, it made me stop and think how we drive. "

Aside from helping, Cummins says she would like to encourage support from the public for the family who lost a loved one."I would like people to keep this family in their thoughts and prayers.

A 10-year-old was ejected from the vehicle driven by Flores. That child and another young passenger in the Taurus suffered serious injuries. The driver of the truck and a 6-year-old were taken to Covenant.
