UPDATED: 1 killed, 1 injured in Saturday night accident

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A man is dead and a woman was injured after an accident on 19th & I-27 Saturday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Officers with LPD's accident investigation unit say a Mustang was traveling north on I-27 when the driver hit debris on the roadway and lost control.

The vehicle hit the guardrail and came to rest on the 19th Street exit ramp.

The driver, 34-year-old Christopher Garcia, was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.

The passenger, 47-year-old Cynthia Garcia, was taken to UMC with minor injuries. Police say she was wearing a seat belt.

Traffic in the area was blocked off for several hours Saturday night.
