New fire station opened in southwest Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Monday, the City of Lubbock unveiled a new fire station at 6611 Oakridge.

According to Fire Chief Mike Kemp, the new station, Fire Station 18 was necessary for southwest Lubbock because of "all the development up and down Milwaukee and all the housing developments going on." He adds, "we're excited to get it open!"

Fire Station 18 is a singe-engine station that will primarily be used to respond to structure emergencies. Chief Kemp added they will also have a reserve unit in case their main station goes down.
