LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The man police say sent his 16-month-old daughter to the hospital with life-threatening injuries was indicted today. 27-year-old Johnny Julian Herrera is charged with intentionally injuring a child and causing serious bodily injuries.

Saturday, March 3rd, EMS crews responded to a call that a child had fallen at the Albany Ridge Apartments near 48th and Slide. When they arrived police say they found the toddler unresponsive.

Doctors had to perform emergency surgery to remove part of her skull because of bleeding and swelling. The surgeons reported that her injuries were consistent with abuse. Herrera was arrested just 24 hours later.

The child's mother tells us that she is doing better and doctors are doing everything they can to ensure her recovery.

Herrera is currently behind bars on a $500,000 bond.
