Frenship Independent School District is proud to announce two Frenship teachers have been awarded the Beaumont Foundation's 2013 Newton Excellence in Education Award as part of the Foundation's ongoing commitment to support education.

Frenship I.S.D.'s 2013 recipients are Joy Burkhalter, a first grade teacher at Crestview Elementary, and Cheryl Mosher, an eighth grade science teacher at Frenship Middle School. Burkhalter is in her eighth year in the teaching profession, spending the last six at Frenship I.S.D. Mosher is in her fifteenth year as an educator and fifth year with the district. Burkhalter and Mosher were selected from a collection of impressive teacher nominations from the Lubbock region.

"Joy is a master teacher who connects with her students as well as develops connections among students to each other," says Stacy Davis, Crestview Elementary Principal. "Her dedication to make a difference in the lives of her students is evident every day."

"Impacting lives is Cheryl's mission, and she impacts them in every way she can," states Jerry Jerabek, Principal at Frenship Middle School. "She holds herself and her students to the highest of standards and truly stands among the finest educators I have ever known in this noble profession."

Each teacher will be honored and receive a $10,000 check during the Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 8 at Texas Tech University's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center.

According to the Beaumont Foundation website, the Awards were created to celebrate and recognize superior contributions of teachers whose leadership and dedication inspire a spirit of learning. The program provides public recognition and financial rewards to educational professionals who are furthering excellence in education.
