Heading Back to School

Students are heading back to the classroom on Monday.

"Parents are excited. Students are excited. Some maybe kind of apprehensive, but when they get on campus they will find an excellent nurturing safe learning environment," says Mark Griffin, LISD President, Board of Trustees.

Elementary students in the LISD start school at 7:55 a.m. Secondary starts at 8:40 a.m.

But everyone who is out needs to be ready for the start of the new school year. While you are heading to work or dropping off kids, other children will be walking to school, so make sure you pay attention to school zones.

If your child is walking to school, plan a safe route for them to do so. Keep the following rules in mind:

  • Always use sidewalks
  • Cross the street only at the crosswalk
  • Stop, look left, right, left again and then cross the street
  • Walk don't run
