Harvard researchers have linked excess salt consumption to more than two million deaths worldwide in 2010.
The doctors analyzed over 200 studies looking at the sodium intake of adults and its effect on blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. Nearly one million of the deaths they linked to high sodium diets were in people under the age of 70. 42-percent were caused by heart attacks and 41-percent by stroke.
The American Heart Association recommends limiting sodium to no more than 1,500 milligrams a day.
