Doctors are using smart phones for more than calls and emails, so now, the FDA is trying to determine which apps need some control and possible approval from the agency.
For example, one app performs an e-c-g, another controls the delivery of insulin to diabetics. Doctors can even review x-rays on their phone, or calculate radiation dosages.
So the FDA is concerned about what might happen if a medical app is not used correctly.
The FDA is asking developers to submit medical apps for approval even though it says only a fraction of them would need to go through the approval process.
