LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech third baseman Jake Barrios hit a two-run homer and scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Red Raiders to a 6-4 victory in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Appalachian Power Park in 10 innings.

The Red Raiders (16-9, 3-2 Big 12) improved to 5-0 following a loss during the month of March while the Mountaineers fall to 9-13 overall and to 2-4 in Big 12 play.

Tech took a 4-0 lead in the eighth inning on Barrios' second home run of the season. WVU immediately came back to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth with four runs (all unearned) while capitalizing on a pair of Red Raider errors in the inning.

With one out in the top of the 10th, Barrios tripled down the left-field line and then scored on catcher Mason Randolph singled through the right side with a drawn in infield to give Tech a 5-4 lead. Tech added a run in the 10th on Brett Bell's RBI fielder's choice grounder to second base.

Tech left-handed pitcher Andre Wheeler (2-0) earned the win pitching a scoreless two innings in relief allowing just two base hits.

WVU relief pitcher Dan Dierdorff (1-3) took the loss allowing two runs on three hits with a walk in 1.2 innings.

Tech starting pitcher Jonny Drozd took a no decision while going six shutout innings with three strikeouts and scattered four base hits.

Barrios went 2-for-5 with two runs, three RBI, a triple and home run while designated hitter Jarrard Poteete went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Tech and West Virginia will complete their three-game series shortly while playing the second game of today's doubleheader at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W. Va.
