LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Devon Bridges connected on a three-run homer in the seventh to propel Boise State to a split in its doubleheader with Texas Tech Saturday as the Broncos took a 4-2 victory at Eller Media Stadium.
The Red Raiders (26-12) led 2-1 with one out in the seventh prior to Bridges' home run that followed a Tara Glover single and a four-pitch walk to Holly Bourke. Tech was a perfect 11-0 when leading after six innings coming into the game.
Rebecca Patton worked around a one-out walk in the seventh to seal the victory. The Red Raiders left nine runners on base, marking the third time in the past four games where Tech had done so.
"We left too many runners on base again today and it got us beat," Tech head coach Shanon Hays said. "We have to do a better job making adjustments and that will be our focus this upcoming week. We have a good ball club but we didn't show it this weekend."
The loss closed Tech's weekend at the Rebel Classic where the Red Raiders went 1-3 with losses Friday to both No. 18 Tulsa and host UNLV. Tech defeated Boise State, 3-2, earlier in the day.
Bridges finished with all four of Boise State's RBI as she went 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single in the fifth inning as well. She scored Glover both times as the leadoff hitter went 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early lead in the second off a Samantha Camello RBI single that sneaked through the right side and allowed Lexie Elkins to come home. Camello helped force in Tech's other run as she stole second and the throw from Weir behind the plate went wild to allow Sydnie Tapia to score from third.
That was all Tech could create off Patton (7-6) as the right-hander limited the Red Raiders to just six hits. She also struck out four while working around five walks in the complete-game victory.
Cara Custer (11-5) took the loss for Tech after giving up the three-run homer in the seventh, her second inning of relief work. Tech used a total of four pitchers as Gretchen Aucoin and Ashley Brokeshoulder both made appearances following starter Brittany Talley.
The Red Raiders open Big 12 play next weekend with a three-game series at Oklahoma State. The series begins with a 7 p.m. first pitch Thursday at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater.
