Local military academy hopefuls got some advice from a congressman on Saturday.
High school students were offered advice first hand from Congressman Randy Neugebauer.
He got to know the young hopefuls and presented the four current nominees with an American flag and a special coin.
Students hoping to attend one of the elite military academies across the country go through a rigorous application process that begins with a congressional nomination.
"This isn't about picking a college," Neugebauer said. "This is about embarking on a career. We use our military academies to train our future leaders of our country, but some of them end up being leaders in our government, military and in the corporate world."
Neugebauer said that students who interested in the academies can begin preparing as early as their freshman year in high school.
The military academies require a heavy math and science curriculum for their acceptance process.
