VSU turns to a former Louisville QB to coach same position

The VSU football team hoping to add some spunk to its coaching staff by hiring now former LSU assistant Adam Froman as its new quarterbacks coach.

If the name sounds familiar you may remember Froman from his days as the starting quarterback for Louisville back in 2009 and 2010. He also signed a free agent contract with the Falcons in 2011 but wasn't signed to the final roster.

Froman spent the last two seasons as an offensive assistant for LSU. With the Tigers, Froman assisted with the quarterbacks and running backs.

"We are excited to add Adam to our staff," said VSU head coach David Dean. "He brings a lot of knowledge and will be a great addition to our football program."

Froman enjoyed a standout collegiate career, both at the junior college and NCAA Division I level. He began his playing days at Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College, where he earned All-American honors and was named the NorCal Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2008.

He passed for 3,876 yards and 40 touchdowns that season while leading Santa Rosa to a final ranking of No. 10.  After Santa Rosa, Froman went on to play for the University of Louisville. In two seasons with the Cardinals, he completed 243-of-403 passes, a 60.3 completion percentage, for 2,987 yards and 17 touchdowns in 17 games.

Red Raiders are gearing up to celebrate homecoming week. This year’s homecoming will kick off Monday (Oct. 16) and end Oct. 21 with the football game against Iowa State at Jones AT&T Stadium.

    Texas Tech's Zach Smith  made program history on Thursday when he was named as one of 20 players on the prestigious Karl Malone Award Watch List. Smith is the first Texas Tech player to be recognized by either of the five preseason watch lists for honors presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
