Earlier this week I commended Levelland ISD school leaders for passing a vote to allow guns on school campuses.
I've received lots of e-mails since then, all positive.
One viewer writes, "It is very personal, and for a school district to take on such a decision, I applaud them. Having grown up with guns hanging in the back windows of pickups, sitting unlocked in the school parking lot, it seems strange. Guns, at one time were not associated with assault or defense. They were just guns. For shooting varmits, or hunting. "
One Levelland resident wrote, "I am behind this 100% and also pray that no one ever has to pull their gun. I expect more schools will make this decision soon.
Another viewer wrote, "Great job Levelland ISD! Now hopefully a larger West Texas ISD will be soon following your lead. Thank you!"
And finally, "I think this puts Levelland one jump ahead in Texas and the rest of the us. Nobody is forced to carry, but those that do take responsibility to protect themselves and as many others as possible. Hurray for them!"
Thanks to all who wrote in. I appreciate hearing your thoughts about such an important issue.
