Lady Chaps run-rule Rogers State twice to sweep doubleheader at home

The No. 6 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals used a three-home run day from Ashton Bell, along with complete game shutouts from both Katera Eltsosie and Courtney McGee, to sweep the No. 3 Hillcats of Rogers State University 8-0, 8-0 Friday with both games ending early via the run rule. The doubleheader opened a four-game Sooner Athletic Conference series at PlainsCapital Park.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Bell singled deep to shortstop to score McGee from third base. In the fifth inning, Mallory Koschany led off the inning with a double to deep left-centerfield and would eventually score on a wild throw from Hillcats third baseman Shona Guerrero on a sacrifice bunt by McKenzie Clemmons. Clemmons would come home on a single by McGee through the left side. The Lady Chaps would score five runs in the sixth inning to end the game via the run rule. Diana De La Paz led off the inning with a hard hit single up the middle. Kaitlin Reed, pinch running for De La Paz, would score when Bell would hit her first home run of the day over the centerfield fence. Faith Koria scored from third on a dropped sacrifice fly to right field. Koschany would score on a shot through the left side by Latainna Eltsosie and Stephanie Rendon would end the game with a line drive up the middle, which scored Clemmons from third.

Latianna Eltsosie went 4-for-4 in the game with an RBI. Koschany had three hits, while McGee, De La Paz and Bell all had multi-hit games. Guerrero went 3-for-3 for the Hillcats, and she was responsible for all but one of their four hits in the game.

In the circle in game one for the Lady Chaps, Katera Eltsosie (17-3) pitched the complete game four-hit shutout. Laura Fleck (23-2) picked up the loss for the Hillcats giving up 16 hits.

In game two, the Lady Chaps would score in each of the six innings. In the first inning, Koschany scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Megan Sullivan. Latainna Eltsosie led off the second with a double up the middle followed by a double to right field off the bat of Stephanie Rendon, which would score Eltsosie. Ashton Bell would hit her second home run of the day, a two-run shot over the centerfield fence. Eltsosie doubled to left-center to start a two-out rally in the third inning. Rendon would follow with a single to right field and an errant throw from the right fielder would score Eltsosie. Bell would lead off the fourth inning hitting her third home run of the day and her seond of the game. Megan Sullivan would mimic Bell and lead off the fifth inning with a home run of her own. Koschany singled through the right side with the bases loaded to score Kaitlin Reed and end the game by run-rule.

Koschany would end up 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Bell went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. Eltsosie and Rendon would both end the game with two hits apiece.

Courtney McGee (9-0) would get the complete game one-hit shutout in game two. Laura Fleck (23-3) would suffer her second loss of the day giving up 12 hits to the Lady Chaps in the second game.

The Lady Chaps are now 35-6 on the season, 9-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play extending their win streak to 21 games. Roger State would suffer only their second and third losses of the season falling to 32-3 overall, 8-2 in SAC play. These same two teams will face-off again tomorrow at 12:00 noon at PlainsCapital Park on LCU's campus. The games can be viewed or heard via the Internet broadcast on www.lcuchaps.com.
