Police took a man into custody Sunday afternoon after convincing him not to jump off an overpass.
Lubbock police were called to the standoff at Highway 84 and 385 around 2:30 p.m., after hearing reports that the Brownfield man was threatening to jump.
Negotiators were called in. One of the officers was able to talk to the man, who asked for a cigarette.
The officer tazed him, and the man took off running.
Police chased him and were able to take him into custody.
Littlefield Chief of Police Thomas Esparza said the man was "distraught over a situation with a girlfriend that lives here in Littlefield. It just got to the point that he just thought he needed to end his life."
The man is being charged with obstruction of a roadway and has been booked into Lamb County Jail.
