New guidelines may help people trying to quit smoking with some help from nicotine patches and gum.
The FDA says the label should be changed to allow patients to use them longer than previously recommended. That means that now users can smoke while using the products as long as their doctor recommends, whatever it takes to eventually break free of nicotine.
Experts say the previous limits on nicotine products were more of a barrier to people.
Now, without a deadline to quit, the FDA is hopeful that these changes will help more people quit without relapses.
