Looking for something fun to do as a family this weekend? Here's an idea.
The Texas Tech's Garrison Institute on Aging is promoting its Healthy Lubbock program by sponsoring all sorts of fun activities at Mackenzie Park Saturday. They're asking families to bring their bikes, trikes, scooters, even hula hoops. Or just come along to dance, learn about yoga or join in some other exercises.
So, why would an institute dedicated to research on aging plan a fun day like this?
"We've learned through the research at the Garrison Institute on Aging that if you stay active, mentally and physically, that you can delay the onset of Alzheimer's and so it's really important for us to do those types of activities where people are staying active and being healthy and being involved in the community," said Annette Boles, who is the director of the Garrison Institute.
The event is called "Let's Play Lubbock." Look for it Saturday from 11 to 3 at Mackenzie Park.
The whole loop around the park will be closed to traffic so that it will be safe for bikes and little wheels, and it's all free.
