Local organization brings awareness to child abuse in Lubbock

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Every year, 3.3 million child abuse cases are reported in the United States. And on April 4th, Child Abuse Awareness Day, one local organization has tried to do some good to help children in Lubbock.

Sondra's Song, a Lubbock-based non-profit group is handing out pinwheels for every child abuse case that has occurred in Lubbock County.

According to Sondra's Song founder, Sandi Turner, "Our focus today was to display 1,328 pinwheels and that represents all the child abuse cases that were reported last year."

Sondra's Song will be hosting a week-long fundraising campaign beginning April 14th at the Tech vs. LCU baseball game where Grammy-nominated singer Amanda Williams will sing the National Anthem.
