Tractor hit by train in fatal accident near Sudan

SUDAN, TX (KCBD) -

Monday morning, crews responded to a fatal accident involving a train and a farm tractor. Around 11:08 a.m., the tractor approached a railroad crossing without lights or crossing arms at CR 6500 and US 84 near Sudan.

The tractor, driven by 69-year-old Carlos Mendez of Sudan, attempted to cross CR 6500 northbound but was hit by an oncoming train traveling westbound. Mendez was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:40 a.m.

DPS is still investigating the incident.
