Safe Wax Could be Solution for Spa Owners

A new invention could help spa owners in the fight against bacterial infection. Lubbock's Avia Candles produces "Safe Sax". The wax has anti-microbacterial ingredients that kill bacteria within 30 seconds to one minute.

The Animal Sciences Department at Texas Tech tested the wax and said it's good for both salon and home use. "We found an ingredients that's added to the wax to make it safe for hands and it doesn't cause any irritations," says Mindy Brashears, of the Animal Sciences Department at Texas Tech.

Lubbock's nail salons recently went through a bacterial infection scare. The City's Health Department issued a warning after at least seven people contracted a rare bacterial infection after receiving pedicures. The health department reviewed Lubbock salons to make sure they were practicing proper cleanliness and maintenance.
