Pay it Forward starts out this week along North Frankford Avenue in NW Lubbock. We set up with our Pay It Forward sign searching for this week's playmaker.
It didn't take long to find our playmaker this week. Within minutes, Trista Elliott and Debbie Welker show up while on their lunch break. They couldn't believe they were in the right place at the right time.
They immediately knew who they wanted to help out. They have chosen Rodney Jackson who is a chemistry teacher at Shallowater High School. Rodney's wife Anna works for Lubbock ISD and was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
Anna has to take numerous trips to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Trista and Debbie know that it has been rough on the Jackson family since they have two sons who are coping with everything too.
We head to Shallowater where we completely surprise Rodney just as students are switching classes. We bring Rodney into the hallway where he is surprised with $300 from his co-workers. Rodney is completely caught off guard and has a difficult time conveying how appreciative he is that his co-workers have thought of his family.
Rodney tells says "Bless you" to everyone for helping his family out during this difficult time in their lives. Students and faculty members in the hallway clap their hands in support of the Jackson family and prayers were exchanged afterwards.
The family asks for prayers as Anna continues treatments periodically at M.D. Anderson. Be looking for our Pay It Forward sign soon! You may become our next playmaker!
