Town Hall Meeting about Godeke Thursday

The Lubbock Libraries Board and Friends of the Library are rounding up ideas for solving a current problem and planning for the years to come.

The board will sponsor a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, April 18, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Godeke Branch Library, 6707 Slide Road.

The public is invited to offer plans for relocating Godeke, which currently occupies a retail site under an expensive lease which could be terminated on short notice. The public is invited to suggest elements of a master plan for local libraries of the future: where and when they should be built and what traditional and electronic materials and services they should offer.

Leaders of the board will outline what's currently being done at the municipal level and the Friends will reveal what's underway at Texas Tech, where architecture students are drafting five different designs for a hypothetical new branch library in southwest Lubbock.

All the ideas will eventually be incorporated into a report for the Lubbock City Council to consider.  All proposals are welcome.  One Board member says, "You never know when someone will come up with a million-dollar idea nobody had thought of before."
