BOSTON, MA (WIS) -

After a spring where he batted .419 and quickly gained the respect of sports analysts, the Boston Red Sox have demoted outfielder and former South Carolina Gamecocks baseball player Jackie Bradley, Jr. to a Triple-A team.

According to NBC Sports, Bradley is being moved to the Pawtucket Red Sox out of Rhode Island to make room for David Ortiz.

In his first game as a Red Sox player, he walked and scored two runs against the New York Yankees.

However, since the beginning of the season, Bradley has batted only .097 with three RBIs and one double.

Unfortunately for Bradley, this news comes as he celebrates his birthday on Friday.

In 2012, Bradley was selected Red Sox Minor League Player of the Year by the Boston Baseball Writers after his full season in the minors playing for HighA Salem and Double-A Portland. He combined to bat .315 with 42 doubles, 4 triples, 9 homers and 63 RBI in 128 games.

Bradley, of course, also played on the two Gamecocks teams that won the NCAA national championship in 2010 and 2011.
